President's Column by EGA. Scherr

KEREN KAYEMETH 1.E1SRAEl

have been writing the President's Column for some time and periodically I've chosen to write about the ad-
vantages that our Deferred Gift Programs offer to potential donors. I think this topic is important and wor-
thy of repetition because of the wonderful and unique financial benefits available to both the JNF as well as
the the potential plan participants. Current tax laws enable individuals to makecost effective gifts to charitable
programs because top tax brackets can now range to just under 40%. The JNF Deferred Gift programs, however, can provide sub-
stantial additional benefits to both you and your heirs. For example, establishing a Charitable Remainder Trust can provide an ad-
vantageous annual income, remove uncertainty from your ongoing investment decisions, and establish a substantial charitable
donation with the Jewish National Fund for the benefit of our people in Israel.
Here's how it works: You take any amount currently invested at low earning rates and upon maturity donate it to the JNF. In re-
turn, JNF will establish a fixed annuity payable quarterly for the rest of your life. The amount of the payment will depend on the
amount donated and your age, but the rate of return will be much higher than any comparable CD or similar investment available.
In summary, establishing a Charitable Remainder Trust with JNF will:
1. Provide a stable, advantageous and reliable income source you will never outlive.
2. Provide you with a current Federal income tax deduction.
3. Reduce your exposure to Federal Estate Tax.
4. Furnish resources to enable JNF to continue its much needed work for our fellow Jews in Israel.
It is particularly gratifying to note that many of our JNF supporters have inquired about these programs and that a number of
these Deferred Gift Programs have been established over the last year. As more and more people have taken the time to find out
about the many advantages of these programs, the rate of programs established has increased strongly. In each case, the donor has
discovered that the program set up and structured to that donor's specific situation will produce advantageous current income
yields to the donor, Federal income tax deductions and Federal estate tax benefits, and support for all the important work of the
JNF.
Based upon my experience working with three specific donors to set up Deferred Gift Programs, I know you will be doing your-
self a favor by getting the facts to help you decide how you can derive the benefits these programs offer. Please call the JNF office at
557-6644 and ask for Ed Rosenthal to find out more.
