YOU SHOULDN'T EAT
EVERYTHING PUT IN
FRONT OF YOU.
You should avoid foods high in
cholesterol. Its a fact, a high
blood cholesterol level sub-
stantially increases your
chances of developing heart
disease. By cutting down on
fatty, rich foods, you can do
yourself a big favor. You could
lower your blood cholesterol
level and reduce your risk of
heart disease.

I is mid-July. The days are sun-
ny, hot and steamy and the
nights are balmy. But the folks
at Tapper's Diamonds and
Fine Jewelry in Southfield are
thinking about snow, below-zero
wind chills and winter coats.
Yes, Tapper's is in the midst of
its fourth annual winter coat drive
in cooperation with the Lighthouse
of Oakland County, a nonprofit
emergency services agency for
county residents with branches in
Pontiac and Clarkston.
Customers who bring a clean,
wearable winter coat into Tap-
per's during July will receive a
gift certificate worth $10 off a pur-
chase of at least $50. The certifi-
cate is good through Dec. 31,
1994. Donors can drop off more
than one coat, but only one cer-
tificate a family is allowed.
Tapper's has become the
largest contributor of coats to
Lighthouse. During the past
three years, the store's customers
brought in more than 1,200 coats
for the agency.
Coats are being dropped off at
the Twelve Mile Road store at a
steady clip. The garments will be
delivered to the Lighthouse,
which already has a waiting list
for them, in early August.
"We're a community-based
business, and we feel compelled
to give back to the community
that has been so good to us," said
Tapper's co-owner Steven Tap-
per, who launched the coat drive
four years ago along with a Tap-
per's employee, buyer Laurie
Harris. "In the cold of winter, a
coat is worth its weight in gold."
Lighthouse, founded in 1972,
is the oldest agency of its type in
Oakland County.
While maintaining a philoso-
phy of helping people help them-
selves, Lighthouse provides food,
clothing, housing, transportation,
prescription drugs and other
needs. About 60 clients a day re-
ceive emergency food supplies
from the agency.
While all coats are appreciat-
ed, children's coats are especial-
ly needed.
"As soon as it gets cold, we re-
ceive many calls from teachers
who tell us they have children in
their classes who need coats.
Then we deliver the coats we col-
lected from Tapper's," said Cecil-
ia Moore, Lighthouse program
director. LI
Propper Way
Of Doing Things
The Israeli cabinet held its first
session on the 1995 budget under
the pall of Manufacturers Asso-
ciation president Dan Propper's
broadside against the govern-
ment's economic policy. Mr. Prop-
per claimed the government was
leading the economy into crisis.
According to Mr. Propper:
The Bank of Israel mistakenly
estimated in the summer of 1993
that inflation would come down
to 8 percent annually, and low-
ered interest rates accordingly.
