Germany's Far Right Rebuffed In Elections Berlin (JTA) — While represen- tatives of right-wing parties made gains among some countries' vot- ers in the elections for the Euro- pean Union Parliament, German and Dutch voters turned back bids by parties representing the extreme right. In Germany, the far-right Re- publican Party failed to get a sin- gle assembly seat. Ignatz Bubis, chairman of the Central Council of Jews in Ger- many, expressed pleasure at the failure of the Republicans to se- cure the minimum of 5 percent of the vote that is required for rep- resentation in the E.U. Parlia- ment. But he expressed concern that radical-right parties gained in several other E.U. countries. "I'm happy that the Republi- cans didn't make it," Mr. Bubis said in a statement released from his office in Frankfurt. "But I re- gret that in other European coun- tries (support for) the right parties increased." According to preliminary re- sults, support for the right-wing Republican Party, which is chaired by former Waffen SS member Franz Schonhuber, dropped to 3.9 percent in this week's voting, from 7.6 percent in the 1989 E.U. Parliamentary elections. In Holland, a leading right- wing party, the Centrist Democ- rats, were denied seats in the European body. The Centrist Democrats' poor showing was considered some- thing of a surprise, since the par- ty has long been described as presenting a great danger in Hol- land. 353-2200 I 0.1 DENTURE z T ° CENTER 4)014 1 Nr HARVARD ROW MALL 21774 WEST 11 MILE RD.
