Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
and moved on to 25 different pro-
ductions at Groves High School,
including Guys and Dolls, The
Boyfriend and Greater Tuna.
As another steppingstone to
professional productions, he was
part of an improvisational group
at United Hebrew High School.
"There was a class where we
were given issues that were im-
portant, and we had to develop
scenes around those issues," Mr.
Hitsky explained. "We took them
into the community, and we
performed them before various
groups."
Roles for pay were earned
through the Lunch Bunch Play-
ers, a children's matinee theater
that had the actors and actresses
serve a meal before each per-
formance, and the annual Michi-
gan Renaissance Festival, where
he appeared in spoofs of the
classics.
Mr. Hitsky, now earning col-
lege money by working in a
restaurant, feels that his singing
with the band Tate's Basement
helped prepare him for the role
he has in Angry Housewives,
which places him in a fictitious
combo.
"It's luxurious being in a show
at the Strand," said Mr. Hitsky,
who was selected to attend
musical theater workshops con-
ducted by University of Michigan
faculty at Interlochen the last
three summers.
"In the shows at Groves, I was
involved in every aspect. Not only
did we get to act, we made cos-
tumes, built sets, applied make-

up and helped with the technical
jobs as well. Now all I'm taking
care of is the acting."
While Ms. Rosenthal has loved
the theater as a way of taking her
out of her shyness, Mr. Hitsky
has loved the connection with the
audience. In this play, both love
the music.
`The style of the music often is
sort of 'cloo-wop,' and it's really
fun to sing," she said. "At times,
it seems more rock with nothing
offensive. It's light-hearted, funny
and enjoyable."
Mr. Hitsky expresses it this
way:
"The music is interesting be-
cause it combines different styles.
The characters are three-dimen-
sional and well-developed as they
deal with strange situations, and
it's highly entertaining to watch
the characters go through what
they go through with fun music
backing them up."
Angry Housewives is being per-
formed at the Strand Theatre in
Pontiac July 14-Aug. 14. For in-
formation, call 335- 8100. ❑
