leries in uptown Birmingham,
will celebrate First Thursday on
July 7 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
This is a coordinated effort of
galleries and shops to accommo-
date everyone's busy schedule by
providing simultaneous openings
and extended gallery hours the
first Thursday of each month.
New paintings, prints, sculp-
ture, photography, decorative and
ancient arts, animation art and
the art of children's book illus-
trators will be part of these open-
ings.

Jewish theology in the face of
catastrophe is the subject of a
continuing text study series for
adult learners taught by com-
munity educator Susann Codish
at the Midrasha Center for Adult
Jewish Learning, Tuesday morn-
ings from 10:30 a.m. to noon on
July 5, 12 and 19. The series co-
incides with the period leading
up to Tisha B'Av.
The July 19 session will focus
on Isaiah's prophecy of redemp-
tion and renewal which will be
read in the synagogue July 23,
the Shabbat following Tisha
B'Av.
There is a charge. Students
may sign up for individual study
sessions or the series. All texts
will be translated into English.

Art Festival
In connection with Plymouth's
"Art In The Park," Native West
Gallery will host its own art fes-
tival July 16 and 17; three artists
will be present to show and
demonstrate their crafts at the
gallery.
Ron Weaver is a watercolor
artist whose subjects include peo-
ple, animals and landscapes in
Western settings.
Frank Ettawageshik is a pot-
ter of the Ottawa tribe, who
makes pottery the way his an-
cestors have in the past.
Gwen (Jones) Fedor is a bead
artist. She specializes in Plains
Indian beadwork through the
recreation of early reservation
(1890s) dolls.
