WHAT IS P'TACH? Parents for Torah for All Children. "P'TACH," is a national non-profit organization which provides secular and Jewish education for children with learning disabilities who are enrolled in our schools. Before P'TACH existed, the doors of almost all day schools were indeed closed to children with all levels of learning disabilities, and the parents oflhese special children were often frustrated by a community that failed to recognize the need for providing special educational programs in our schools. Now, through P'TACH, the doors of our schools are "OPEN" to all our children. Knesset Revamps Adoption Laws Jerusalem (JTA) — The Knesset this week took a first step toward passage of a bill that will bring the procedures for adopting chil- dren from abroad into line with accepted international conven- tions. In Israel, where the number of local children available for adop- tion has become increasingly smaller, many couples have been adopting children from South American countries and also from Romania. While most of these adoptions posed only minimal legal prob- lems, some have resulted in in- ternational legal battles and human tragedies. The proposed legislation seeks to remedy this situation by mak- ing Israeli adoptions conform with international norms. bs 0 5 th Anniversary Sale de* Celebration Save v. 50% on All Stock Merchandise! t June 20th-30th IP" Free Airf e for Two! with purchase of $500 or more* FOR FURTHER INFORMATION P'TACH of Mich., Inc. 25311 Ronald Court Oak Park, Michigan, 48237 (313) 399.6281 0 Rabin, Peres Party Unity Jerusalem (JTA) — Tensions eased somewhat in the ruling La- bor Party this week as Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, longtime rival of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, called off a planned meet- ing of his supporters and assured the prime minister he would not revive the feud between them. Mr. Peres' move followed a stormy session of the party's Cen- tral Committee in Tel Aviv when Mr. Rabin faced angry heckling from rank-and-filers disgruntled over Labor's defeat in last month's Histadrut labor federa- tion election. Aides to Mr. Rabin — though not the premier himself — sug- gested that Mr. Peres was behind the rebellion in the party. But following a meeting be- tween Mr. Rabin and Mr. Peres, both leaders denied the reports of conflict. Mr. Peres said that a unified party was essential for promot- ing the peace process and that he will do everything in his power to ensure unity. Mr. Peres' office denied a sto- ry in the Hebrew daily Ha'aretz suggesting the foreign minister had promised Mr. Rabin "peace in the party" in return for the pre- mier's agreement to let him han- dle the stalled peace negotiations with Syria. Despite the denial, however, well-placed sources confirmed that Mr. Peres will play a more active role in the Syrian track, which Mr. Rabin had previous- ly handled on his own. Mr. Rabin faces deep dissent and even bitterness within the ranks of his party following La- bor's unprecedented defeat in the May 10 Histadrut trade union elections. The Michigan branch, P'TACH of Michigan, Inc., was founded in May of 1979 by a group of parents, lay people and professionals in fields related to special education. Our main objective is to provide special education for learning disabled children with the goal of mainstreaming them into regular classrooms whenever possible. Today, P'TACH has grown to serve over twenty children in its two programs. Unfortunately, due to a lack of financial resources, children are currently on a waiting list to enter P'TACH's programs. J.
