Getting Friendly

Trade ties between Israel and
China are expected to deepen as
diplomatic relations continue to
develop, business leaders from
both nations said.
Li Shifang, economic and com-
mercial counselor at the Chinese
Embassy, sounded an upbeat
note at a Tel Aviv seminar titled
"Penetrating the Chinese Mar-
ket - Step by Step" hosted by
The Jerusalem Post.
He cited the recent signing of
taxation agreements and the fre-
quent visits by trade delegations
and government ministers be-
tween the two nations.
He pointed to Israel's abilities
in the energy, agriculture and
telecommunications fields, areas
in which China needs help.

Is Fined By The U.S.

Washington (JTA) - The U.S.
Commerce Department has im-
posed a $78,000 civil penalty
against Gotco International, a
Texas-based oil tool manufac-
turer, for allegedly complying
with the Arab boycott against Is-
rael.
The company agreed to pay the
fine - $38,000 of which was sus-
pended by the Commerce De-
partment - while neither
denying nor admitting the al-
leged violations.
