Art Fund-Raiser

Original works of art by the Old
and Modern Masters, Peter Max
and more than 20 contemporary
living artists will help support a
variety of special programs when
they are sold to the highest bid-
der at an exhibition of fine art
sponsored by the American Jew-
ish Committee June 23 with a
dessert preview at 7 p.m., fol-
lowed by the auction at 8 p.m.
The event will be held at the
Birmingham Community House,
380 S. Bates in Birmingham.
There is a charge.
Featured in the auction will be
custom framed original works
spanning five centuries includ-
ing wood engravings from Din--
er's Renaissance period; etchings
from impressions by Rembrandt;
several first edition etchings, in-
cluding impressions by Goya;
rare lithographs, etchings and
engravings by Renoir; hand-
signed works and creations dat-
ing from the 1920s - 1960s by
Picasso; a selection of aquatints,
etchings and lithographs from
nearly every period by Miro and
etchings, engravings and litho-
graphs from nearly every peri-
od by Miro and etchings,
engravings and lithographs from
1922 - 1970s by Chagall.
In addition, paintings, water-
colors, drawings, serigraphs, lith-
ographs and etchings by Peter
Max will be available for auction.

available by calling the Ameri-
can Jewish Committee, 646-7686.

Stages Comedy

The Purple Rose Theatre Com-
pany will begin performances of
Stanton's Garage, a new comedy
by Joan Ackermann, June 9 at
the Purple Rose Theatre Com-
pany's Garage Theatre, 137 Park

Performances for the eight-
week engagement will be
