ometime this fall, probably
in October, Greg Lusardi
will become an interna-
tional television star. At
least for an hour.
The 16-year-old from Hunt-
ington Woods is one of four stu-
dents to be featured in a
documentary tentatively titled,
"Trading Classrooms: Detroit-
England." Two half-hour seg-
ments are planned, one showing
two English students visiting De-
troit, the other with two Ameri-
can students in England.
A combined effort of the Pub-
lic Broadcasting System (PBS)
in the United States and the
BBC in England, the documen-
tary will be part of the "Club Con-
nect" show here, and the "Off
Limits" show in England. Chan-
nel 56 is the PBS affiliate in De-
troit.
English students Tommy Fer-
guson and Lydean Taylor, who
both reside in Liverpool, were re-
cently in Detroit for 10 days, tour-
ing the area and living the lives
of American teens.
Tommy stayed with the Lusar-
di family and attended Berkley
High School; Lydean was with
Shannon Shelton's family in De-
troit and went to Renaissance
High School.
The roles will be reversed lat-
er this month when Greg, a ju-
nior at Berkley who is a fine
football and hockey player, and
Shannon will be in England for
12 days. It will be Greg's first
journey overseas. The show's pro-
ducers are paying all of the stu-
dents' traveling expenses.
"Pm really looking forward to
the trip," Greg said. "I'm trying
to learn everything I can about
England before I go. I know the
King David school, one of the

S

most influential Jewish schools
in England, is right in Liverpool
near Tommy's home, and I hope
to visit there."
Greg's family includes his fa-
ther and mother, Bob and Midge
Lusardi, and his brother, Matt,
18, who is graduating from
Berkley this month and will at-
tend Indiana University in the
fall. Bob Lusardi is president of
the Berkley School Board.
Greg and Matt both celebrat-
ed their Bar Mitzvah and confir-
mation at Temple Emanu-El in
Oak Park.
The time Tommy spent here
with the Lusardis was hectic, to
say the least. Filming was done
over six days at Tiger Stadium,
Hart Plaza, Greektown, the Peo-

ple Mover, the Motown Hoe-
down, the RenCen, the Detroit
Institute of Arts, the Detroit His-
torical Museum, the Motown
Museum, Greenfield Village and
a Coney Island restaurant in
Dearborn.
Tommy even attended the
Berkley prom at the Westin Ho-
tel in Detroit. He and his date
were one of six couples which
rented a limousine for the occa-
sion.
When they weren't filming,
Greg and Tommy went
rollerblading, toured Cranbrook
and Windsor, and shopped in
places like Royal Oak, Birming-
ham and the Fairlane Town Cen-
ter in Dearborn.
