Japanese Choir
At Adat Shalom

The Adult Study Commission of
Adat Shalom Synagogue will host
a concert by Makhelat
Hashacher, the Japan Christian
Friends of Israel. It is the second
of two programs demonstrating
"The Jewish Ling with Japan,"
presented by Adat Shalom this
spring. The performances is set
for 7:30 p.m. June 6. An afterglow
will follow.
The 40-member choir is spon-
sored by the Japan Friends of Is-
rael, which was organized by
Reverend Takeji Otsuki, a young
Protestant minister, right after
the World War II. Its temple com-
plex, Beit Shalom, is located in
Kuoto, where buildings are
named in memory of Anne
Frank.
Makhelat Hashachar — the
Chorus of the Dawn — is com-
posed of members representing
choirs throughout Japan, all of
whom belong to the Christian
Friends of Israel. They present
exhilarating renditions of Israeli,
Jewish liturgical, and Japanese
music.
The concert is sponsored by the
Kepes Family in memory of Inez
Kepes. It begins at 7:30 p.rri.
There is no charge. Tickets may
be obtained at the synagogue.
Tickets will be distributed on a
first-come, first-served basis.

Temple Players
Stage Comedy

On June 11, 12 the Birmingham
Temple Players will present the
comedy Social Security by An-
drew Bergman. Cast members
are Ruth Goldman-Sarcus, Norm
Gross, Sheldon Halpern, Sheri-
day Holzman, Judy Schneider
and Carol Schwartz. The play is
directed by Janice Leadbitter.
The June 11 performance is at
8 p.m. followed by an afterglow.
The June 12 performance is at
7 p.m. Tickets will be available
at the door.
