and Lloyd Smith, recalled when
it was Detroit Institute of Can-
cer Research, incorporated 1943
after being formed in a basement
laboratory on the campus of
Wayne State University.
Today, MCF is one of the world
leaders in cancer research and a
pioneer in service and cancer ed-
ucational programs.
It happens every year ... the
same old thing ... as Michigan
Cancer Foundation puts still an-
other nail in the box sealing it
down with events that are easi-
ly among the premier ones held
in the local area.
Only question left is when it
will reach the $1 million mark for
an evening.
THEY MET over five years
ago through The Jewish News
People Connector ... and after
much debating, are in the process
of wedding plans ... Ida Olson re-
cently celebrated her 85th birth-
day, and Nate Williams will be
92 in August.
FOLKS WHO attended the
first reunion of Central High's
1949 graduating class back in
1959 at Latin Quarter on Grand
Boulevard still have memories
they can laugh about now ... Es-
pecially of the Latin Quarter crew
forgetting to clean the air conch-
tioners ... and everybody having
a very "sooty" evening.
The 20th in 1969 at former
Hillside Country Club saw over

400 people ... and that's about
the number the group has when-
ever they throw a reunion ...
which it decided, after this one,
to have every five years.
In 1974, there were three of
them feting the 25th ... Raleigh
House in Southfield, and big par-
ties in Los Angeles and Atlanta
... with ex-grads making phone
calls back and forth between the
cities.
Wish we had room to name all
the workers, it's so great that
they are doing what others
should copy ... not having a re-
union and then forgetting about
it ... Instead of wishing it were
more often, they get off their duffs
and do something about it.
For the past 20 years, a core
group of the reunion committee,
about 20 folks, meet the first
Thursday of every month ... get-
ting together for an hour just to
talk, eat and look forward to the
next month and another class re-
union.
Four hundred or more are
again expected for Central, 1949

grads togetherness number sev-
en, its 45th, Nov. 19, at Petruzzel-
li's Catering Hall on Rochester
Road in Troy.
Give these guys and gals a big
hand ... Having a reunion every
five years is really something to
look forward to instead of the
usual letdown that comes with
an evening of enjoyment and say-
ing goodbye to dear friends of yes-
teryears.
More info on the Nov. 19 affair
can be gotten by calling Adele
Abromovich Ozrovitz (June
class), 661-0269; or Sally
Lebowitz Levine (January class),
545-7469.

Draghici from Romania, R.I.K.'s

"EVEN MY golf game is bet-

cancer surgery and was back on
the links in a jiffy while recuper-
ating ... 'The operation was noth-
ing," says Al, back styling at

IT WAS HIS big chance ...
and local real estate gent Harold
Etkin now has Broadway on his
mind ... While at the Fisher The-
atre to see Five Guys Named
Moe, with wife Judy, Bob and Er-
ica Singer and Al and Maddie
Adelson, Harold was called on
stage to do the role of "Harold
Moe" ... From a song sheet given
everyone, he sang "Push Ka Pi
Shi Pie" in calypso be bop tempo.

son ... on her birthday ...to Allen
