C arol Goren has made a name for herself as one of the pioneers of "boudoir" photography. She's done centerfold-type portraits of thou- sands of women from all over the country. Ms. Goren's work has been chronicled in newspapers and magazines. She has been a guest on many local and national tele- vision talk and news shows. Sometime in the next year, the Southfield High School graduate will be the subject of a feature sto- ry in Life magazine. A professional photographer for 14 years after being a model, actress and acting coach, Ms. Goren founded Captured Glam- our Inc. in 1984 along with her mother, former model Jean Goren. They have been at their location in Southfield since 1993 after moving from Farmington Hills. Last year, Ms. Goren did hun- dreds of boudoir portraits. She says she often works seven days a week, especially during busy periods like holidays. About two years ago, at the re- quest of clients, Ms. Goren says, she began taking more tradi- tional photos of events and sub- jects like weddings, bar mitzvahs, graduating high school seniors, businessmen and chil- dren. Because some may consider Ms. Goren's boudoir photography risque, it has been called controversial. But, apparently, it has been accepted by her colleagues in the pho- tography field. Last month, at the 53rd annual awards banquet of the Professional Pho- tographers of Michigan (PPM) at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dear- born, Ms. Goren received the Ms. Goren has been a guest on many television talk and news shows. Award of Merit. The four prints she entered were judged the third-best group in the state. The prints included "Fairy Tales," a picture of a young girl reading a book; "Night Moves," a night-time shot of a man in his car; and boudoir poses "Sweet Sue" and "Misty Crystal." in the mid-Michigan town of Clare. "Winning awards means you're capable of doing work which is accepted by your peers," Mr. Guiliani said. "The general public may not know the differ- ence between so-so and excellent work, but our contest judges, who come here from across the coun- try, sure do. When you win, you feel better about your photogra- phy." This wasn't the first time Ms. Goren's photography was recog- nized. She now has received blue ribbons 13 times in contests. "It's very nice to be recognized by your peers," said Ms. Goren, who charges a minimum of $160 for her boudoir. work. "Now, my goal is to earn Master Photogra- pher status. That really would be something."
