Picking up on her youngest daughter's interest in helping the homeless, Ms. Frank sets aside part of her earnings from this line to aid organizations such as the Baldwin Soup Kitchen in Pontiac. One of Ms. Frank's "peeple" was on the White House Christ- mas tree in 1993. "President and Mrs. Clinton decided that in honor of the Year of the American Craft they would ask artists to donate ornaments," Ms. Frank explained. "This was through the Ohio Crafts Guild, of which I am a member. "I had to submit slides and drawings, and I had to go through a jury process to be chosen to par- ticipate. The theme was angels, and they could be in any shape or form. "I did an angel like my `peeple' and had the phrase 'All peeple need a home' embossed on the back. "I didn't consider it a religious artifact because I think an angel is a generic symbol depicting love and caring and feeling." Ms. Frank treasures a thank- you letter and photo of the tree received from Mrs. Clinton and is planning to frame both and keep them close to her work area. Meanwhile she is finishing her second Holocaust sculpture and contemplating how her approach will affect those who pass by it. "When a piece of art is pur- chased or given away, it's like a piece of me is going with that work, and it's a very special feel- ing," she said. ❑ Temple Beth El Sets Art Auction In conjunction with Park West Gallery, Temple Beth El will host "An Exhibition of Fine Art" May 28 at Temple Beth El.
