ike fine wine, the Detroit
Metropolitan Regional Law
Fair seems to improve with
age.
Judge Stephen C. Cooper said
the eighth annual event at Tel-
Twelve Mall in Southfield at-
tracted more than 2,000
attendees earlier this month.
Attendance has risen each
year, according to Judge Cooper,
the originator of the fair and the
chief judge of the 46th District
Court in Southfield.
`Me turnout at our latest fair
was wonderful.," said Judge Coop-
er. "It seems like the fair gets bet-
ter every year as we become more
and more organized."
The more than 100 attorneys
in attendance at Tel-Twelve had
one-on-one consultations with an
estimated 430 people, according
to Judge Cooper, and none of the
fair-goers had to wait more than
a couple of minutes to see a
lawyer.
"I had several people tell me
they look forward to the fair be-
cause they save up questions dur-
ing the year to ask the attorneys,"
Judge Cooper said.

Larry Schiller once again co-
ordinated the efforts of the Oak-
land County Bar Association.
About 300 or so fair attendees
attended mini-lectures present-
ed by the Straker Bar Associa-
tion, an Oakland County-based
African-American group. "More
than 400 children were finger-
printed by Southfield Emergency .
Management and dozens of citi-
zens registered to vote," Judge
Cooper said.
Welcome additions back to the
fair after an absence of a few
years were the Students Against
Driving Drunk (SADD) chapters
from both Southfield and South-
field-Lathrup high schools.
The Southfield Police Depart-
ment's home security display was
one of the most popular stops for
fair-goers, Judge Cooper said.
Children were entertained by
Vince and Larry, the seat-belt
crash dummies, and McCrruff, the
crime-fighting dog. They also re-
ceived coloring books and had a
chance to check out police cars,
emergency vehicles and an Oak-
land County Sheriffs Depart-
ment marine chase boat.
