NEW EQUITY TRADE PROGRAM! "WE PAY OFF YOUR TRADE!" MEL FARR ital status, medical profile and extenuating circumstances is re- quested on the form and will be considered when making fund- ing determinations. After the congregations have reviewed applications to gather a sense of their financial respon- sibility, a staff member of the ME will proceed with the initial screening process. A joint panel of the implementation commit- tee and Federation's Education Division will make final deter- minations. Checks will be written to the congregations but mailed to the families to present. "I think this partnership shows the support Federation has for the education and religious in- stitutions," Mr. Nachman said. "This is a pilot year. If there are oversights or inequities, we'll an- alyze them next spring and do some fine-tuning." ❑ Congregations Watch As Rabbis Come And Go JENNIFER FINER STAFF WRITER R abbi Julian Cook recently announced his plans to re- sign as associate rabbi of Temple Beth El because of what he calls "the nature of the rabbinate." Rabbi Cook said his plans for the future are still up in the air. "People move on in their lives," said Rabbi Cook, who has been with the temple for six years. 'There is nothing unusual about this from my perspective." Herbert Kaufman, president of Temple Beth El, said the rab- bi's decision was not a surprise. "We have known for some time that he has wanted his own pul- pit," Mr. Kaufman said. 'The con- gregation is sad he is leaving. He has been warm, profes- sional and a wonderful member of our staff" A Beth El search committee is looking for another rabbi and, ac- cording to Mr. Kaufman, it should reach a decision shortly. Adat Shalom Synagogue re- cently completed its search for an associate rabbi. This summer, Rabbi Daniel Nevins will join Rabbi Efry Spec- tre, whose contract was just re- newed through October 1999. Rabbi Nevins was ordained yes- terday at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. ❑ LINCOLN MERCURY TRADE IN YOUR PRESENT VEHICLE WITH US TODAY REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH YOU OWE!* • TOYOTA • '9 MAZDA • VVII4 NEW '94 MARK VIII NEW '94 CAMRY LE "Over 25 at similar savings" BUY $33,638 LEASE sanclin Stk. 11_41285, leather and traction assist, $6,852.80 down, $225 sec. de.. 24 Mos.
