4;) INFINITI of FARMINGTON HILLS 1994 J30 I find so poignant that heart- breaking and life affirming at the same time. The first astonishes me. The focal point for observant Jews is Halachah, Jewish law. We would think that in the camps Ha- lachah would be the farthest thing from the inmates' minds. Yet there survive today hundreds of questions of Jewish law that the prisoners asked their rabbis, from what to eat on Passover, to whether it was permitted for a woman pregnant before her cap- ture to have an abortion. These questions were not just a matter of information. They allowed the Jews to maintain their humani- ty while the Nazis lost theirs. The second great act is that in one of the camps, when Simchat Torah came, the rejoicing of the Torah, the Jews had no Torah with which to dance. They took a small child and danced with him as their Torah. At Jewish celebrations we al- ways remember the tragedies that have happened in the past. This is one reason we break a glass at weddings. Our beloved parents and grandparents, though, taught us something greater. They taught us to find moment of joy even dur- ing great tragedy. I hope it is this memory of their lives that continues to enrich our own lives with meaning and hope. 0 $399 36 Mo. $599* G• INFINITI AT Greg FREE SERVICE LOANER SHOES FREE PICK-UP AND DELIVERY Orchard Mall 24355 Haggerty Road • South of Grand River 851-5566 Shabbat Services In Petoskey Temple B'nai Israel of Petoskey will conduct Shabbat services June 10 and June 24.
