tended MJAC community-wide
forums and was impressed with
the Jewish education com-
ponent.
When Ms. Davis saw the ad-
vertisement for the MJAC posi-
tion, all her friends said, "That
job has your name on it."
In addition to bringing a fund-
raising background to MJAC,
Ms. Davis is familiar with AIDS
testing and counseling from her
former employment.
Ms. Davis said she is particu-
larly impressed with MJAC's ac-
tive board of directors and its
mission.
"MJAC is part of the Jewish
response of taking care of our-
selves as a community. How did
JARC (Jewish Association for
Residential Care) happen? A
need was there," Ms. Davis said.
"And now we all think we're pret-
ty sophisticated in talking to our
children about sexuality and
AIDS and life and death. rm not
so sure."
As an example, Ms. Davis re-
called a recent MJAC teaching
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
Rabbi William Gershon asked
both students and parents to
raise their hands if they thought
the other was sexually active. No
arms were lifted.
"That's not reality," Ms. Davis
said. "This is the need we have
to meet — talking honestly about
AIDS and Jewish values to-
gether, as families." 11_1
