The Schwartzes

ident of Beit Kodesh, was in-
strumental in securing the Torah.
He is from Superior and was a
member of Temple Beth El. Mr.
Abe Gross, his father, will be a
guest of Beit Kodesh for the
ceremony.
Following the ceremony there
will be a brief Sunday school corn-
mencement followed by Shavuot
services. Refreshments will be
served.

Petoskey Temple
Plans Services

Congregation Beth Achim will
honor Jack and Jay Schwartz at
Shabbat morning services May
7. Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz will be
presented with the Second Cen-
tury Award along with other hon-
orees at the Annual Jewish
Theological Seminary's Gala May
23, recognized for their contribu-
tions to Congregation Beth
Achim and to the Jewish com-
munity.
Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz have
been active supporters of the Jew-
ish Theological Seminary, serv-
ing as Beth Achim's JTS
chairpersons for several years.
Mr. Schwartz is a contracts con-
sultant with the Department of
Defense. He is an active leader
locally and nationally with the
Jewish War Veterans, serving
three terms as past state com-
mander; and currently he is on
the national JWV executive com-
mittee.
Jay has shared her husband's
involvement with the Jewish
War Veterans, having served as
a past state president of the Jew-
ish War Veterans Ladies Auxil-
iary. Mrs. Schwartz is retired
from Wayne State University
where she was a supervisor in the
finance department. She was
president of the Jewish Veterans
Memorial Home as well as being
a board member of the Jewish
War Veterans National Museum
in Washington, D.C.

Temple B'nai Israel in Petoskey
will begin weekly Friday evening
Shabbat services the first week-
end in May; they will continue
throughout the summer. Those
visiting and vacationing up north
are invited to attend services,
which begin at 8 p.m.
Temple B'nai Israel is served
by a student rabbi from the He-
brew Union College. They have
an active sisterhood and religious
school and accept summer mem-
berships in both the temple and
sisterhood.
