Wetsman Gallery
Features Quilts

The Wetsman Collection Gallery
in Birmingham will feature quilt
artist Terrie Hancock Mangat
through the month of May. The
gallery is located at 132 North
Woodward; hours 11-5 p.m.,
Tuesday through Saturday.
Terrie Hancock Mangat's
quilts seem like painting, sand
she encourages that blur by treat-
ing them as canvases, using paint
to create the thin lines and fab-
ric to build the voluminous
shapes. The strength of her quilts
lies in the attention to detail and
the energy created by the intense
colors. This energy is further en-
hanced by linear and circular
quilting.
Her work is often autobio-
graphical, dealing literally with
the fabrics of domestic life. She
has created several memorial
quilts to honor family and friends.
