Accompanied by his daughter, Mr. Perlman played a series of classical pieces and then spent more than two hours fielding questions from the more than 400 children in the audience, many of whom had to be helped to the concert by their parents or by members of the CMCI medical staff. That made me try even harder." When another child asked about the limitations his physi- cal condition imposes, Perlman answered: "I don't spend much time thinking about what I can't do, but rather about what I can do." "The idea behind Mr. Perl- man's performance here was to present a man who, despite suf- fering from polio, has built an in- ternational career," said Professor Yehuda Danon, director of the CMCI. "We are grateful to this virtuoso of the violin for the won- derful concert he performed and for the encouragement he gave to our children." ❑ est m ai $10.00 OFF (with ady IN STOCK SELECTION WITH GUARANTEED BEST PRICE! Several leading officials of the opposition Social Dem- ocratic Party said last week that Mr. Kanther was "playing with fire" and "creating an atmosphere which would help to make neo - Nazi groups more ac- ceptable." Mr. Kanther, a member of the ruling Christian Dem- ocratic Union, was schedul- ed this week to present the yearly government report on political extremism in Ger- many. A draft of the document had been made available to state governments, and this apparently triggered the criticism of Mr. Kanther's plans.
