B

aseball was the reason 70 youngsters in
grades K-6 flocked to the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Building of the Jewish Community
Center on a recent Thursday evening.
Specifically, the kids came to the Oak
Park facility for the fourth annual Indoor
All-American Baseball Clinic sponsored by the Neighbor-
hood Project of the Jewish Federation, the JCC and The

Jewish News.
In addition to receiving instruction on hitting, throwing
and catching, infield play and outfield play, the youngsters
enjoyed pizza, a baseball card show and took part in a base-
ball trivia contest.
"Considering it was a weekday, it was a good turnout,"
said Theresa Fulgenzi, physical education director at JPM.
"It looked like all the kids had a great time. It was a fun
event, not competitive."
New features have been added to the clinic each year.
This year, it was the baseball-card show. Irwin Cohen, better
known as Mr. Baseball, and Sol Einhorn provided expert
analysis. Mr. Cohen and Mr. Einhorn both volunteered
their time.
The youngsters spent 15 minutes at each of the four
instruction stations, which were staffed by JPM staff mem-
bers.
Dave Badour, assistant health-club director, taught hit-
ting; aquatic director Jim McNellis worked with the kids
on throwing and catching; Lori Goldberg, assistant physi-
cal education director, was in charge of infield play; and
Ms. Fulgenzi handled outfield play. 111
