The Sinai Hospital Guild will
hostits 41st Annual Luncheon
Meeting 11 a.m. May 12 at Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek. Guest
speakers will be WJBK-TV
news anchorperson Sherry
Margolis and syndicated advice
columnist Jeffrey Zaslow.
The Sinai Hospital Guild will
present $66,000 to Dr. David
Schwartz, Obstetrics and Gy-
necology Department chairper-
son, to support the Advanced
Technical Training Program,
which trains Sinai obstetrics/gy-
necology and surgery residents
and attending physicians in
complex endoscopic surgical
techniques and other new pro-
cedures. The Guild will also do-
nate $25,000 from gift shop
proceeds for research and Tay-
Sachs screening, a fatal genet-
ic disease common to Jews of
eastern European descent.
New Guild officers to be in-
stalled are RoseLynn Schlussel,
Rose Rita Goldman, Marlene
Gropman, vice presidents;
Janelle Miller and Trudy Weiss,
secretaries.
Continuing as Guild officers
are Hope Silverman, president;
Sandra Schwartz, vice presi-
dent; Carol Sue Coden, Elise
Levinson, treasurers; Marian
Kantor and Roslyn Aronow, sec-
retaries.
Nominated for Guild board
of directors are Joyce Blum,
RoseLynn Schlussel, Sally
Krugel, Janelle Miller, Marilyn
Levine, Dotty Smith, Helen
Shevin, Joanne Zuroff. Thelma
Rosenbaum has been nomi-
nated for honorary life board
membership.

New Playground
Plans Made
Plans for a Biblical Playground
to be built at the Jimmy Pren-
tis Morris Jewish Community
Center will be introduced at the
Family Fun Day 1-4 p.m. April
24, at the Oak Park facility. The
JPM Biblical Playground will
be constructed on the July 4th
weekend. The program will fea-
ture kosher refreshments and
activities for children.
Admission is free to the Fam-
ily Fun Day, which is sponsored
by the Neighborhood Project of
the Jewish Federaton of Met-
ropolitan Detroit, the Jewish
Community Center and JEFF.

William Lebeau
Seminary Parlor
Hosts Rabbi
A Special Gifts Meeting on be-
half of the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America will be
held April 28 at the home of
Leslie and Paul Magy. The
guests of honor will be this
year's Second Century Award
recipients. Rabbi William
Lebeau will be the featured
speaker. Marking the centen-
nial since the ordination of the
first Conservative rabbi, he will
speak on the growing impor-
tance of the partnership be-
tween rabbis and congregations.
Rabbi Lebeau is concurrently
a vice chancellor and dean of the
Rabbinical School. Prior to his
appointment at the Seminary,
Rabbi Lebeau was for 10 years
a rabbi in Highland Park, Ill.
Currently 156 rabbinical stu-
dents are studying in the six-
year post bachelor of arts
program. From Detroit there
are: Michelle Faudem, Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses; Avi
Friedman, Beth Achim; Fran-
cine Green, Temple Israel; Alex
Greenbaum, Beth Shalom;
Michael Pont, Shaarey Zedek.
For this coming fall some 45
students have been accepted
making it the largest entering
rabbinical class ever.
The Second Century recipi-
ents will be honored at the An-
nual Community-Wide Gala,
given on behalf of the Seminary,
May 23 at Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue. The honorees are Nellie
Friedman, Congregation B'nai
Moshe; Judge Ira and Margaret
Kaufman, Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue; Abram and Rhoda
Medow, Congregation Shaarey
Zedek; Sophie Pearlstein, Con-
gregation Beth Shalom; and
Jack and Jay Schwartz, Con-
gregation Beth Achim.
