Adults with sensorineural hearing loss-
es in both ears (bilateral) are often advised
to choose hearing instruments for both
ears (binaural) instead of just one (monau-
ral). Many, however, choose monaural
amplification on the basis that ft is less ex-
pensive than binaural, less conspicuous,
or for some other reason. The fact is that
hearing studies suggest that those who
choose monaural fittings over the binau-
ral may be sacrificing some of their hear-
ing ability. In one study, word recognition
scores for 20 adult patients with sym-
metrical bilateral sensorineural hearing
losses were tested prior to hearing in-
strument use, after monaural instrument
use, and after binaural fittings resulted in
poorer recognition in unaided ears.

It could well be that a binaural hearing
instrument could add an entirely new di-
mension to your hearing. We provide and
service many makes and models of hear-
ing instruments. If it's been longer than
you can remember since you got your
hearing checked, now might be a good
