Today, Herbert Block (Herblock) is a Pulitzer Prize- winning editorial cartoonist for the Washington Post. His life and work are chronicled in Herblock: A Cartoonist's Life (Macmillan Publishing). In his autobiography, Mr. Block tells of his childhood in Chicago, his first job as editor- ial page cartoonist with the Chicago Daily News, his wartime years in the Army and his career following his move in 1946 to Washington, D.C. Among the many politicians and actors, authors and poets Mr. Block met in his long career were Truman Capote, Harry Truman, Marlene Dietrich and Carl Sandberg.
