that her sons prepared her well
for the make-believe environ-
ment she finds on soundstages.
`The thing that brought them
the greatest joy was trying to
trick me about anything. Some-
one would tell me a story, and
they all would support it.
"To this day, they still have
fun doing that, and I instinc-
tively know when to check and
double-check what they tell
me."
Sam continues to have fun
casting non-theatrical relatives
into small parts. His uncle Sid-
ney Abrams appeared in Sam's
earliest home movies, and Sam
makes sure he appears in fea-
ture films.
The Raimi brothers return to
Michigan about twice a year to
visit, and sometimes work.
They make a point of partici-
pating in their parents' seders,
recalling religious studies at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
where they had their b'nai
mitzvah services.
During their visits here, Sam
likes to bike and stop at the
Franklin Cider Mill, while Ivan
and Ted head for favorite
restaurants.
With heavy work schedules
that do not allow much time for
special interests, they continue
to support Jewish causes, par-
ticularly the Anti-Defamation
League.
Sam is married to Gillian
Greene, daughter of the late
actor Lorne Greene who starred
in the TV series "Bonanza." His
brothers remain single. ❑
