Co-sponsoring "A Tribute to Jerusalem" with Temple Israel are the American Zionist Movement, Michigan Re- gion; Congregation Shaarey Zedek; Temple Beth El; and the Jewish Federation of Metropol- itan Detroit. A special keynote address will be presented by Seymour D. Re- ich, president of the American Zionist Movement. Also featured will be Cantors Gail Hirschen- fang of Temple Beth El, Chaim Najman of Congregation Shaarey Zedek, and Harold Or- bach of Temple Israel. Directed by choral director Matthew T c zar, other participants will be the Congregation Shaarey Choir, conducted by Eugene Zweig; the Temple Beth El Chorale, conducted by Cantor Gail Hirschenfang, the Temple Israel Choir, conducted by Ellen Duncan; the Temple Israel Choral Group, conducted by Elaine Greenberg, and the Za- mir Chorale, conducted by Ben- jamin Cohen. Mr. Reich, an activist and leader in world Jewish affairs, has held many high positions in American Jewish life, including two terms as president of B'nai B'rith International and two terms as chairman of the Con- ference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the umbrella group represent- ing 50 national Jewish organi- zations. In that position he served as the chief spokesman of the world's largest Jewish community in its relations with the Bush Administration, the UN, the State of Israel and gov- ernments around the world. The program will begin April 30 after Shabbat, with Noa (Achinoam Nini) and Gil Dor in concert in the JCC's Shiff- man Hall. Doors open at 9:15 p.m. Noa just debuted her latest album, Noa, in the United States. Her music is a pop/jazz mix in English and Hebrew. The celebration will contin- ue May 1, with the annual Walk for Israel, which begins its 3.5 mile trek at 12:30 p.m. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. The Celebrate Israel festivi- ties will feature Israeli food, art and music. Programs for peo- ple of all ages will include an art show, a technology fair and a video presentation of the Is- rael independence celebration in Yavne, Detroit's Project Re- newal sister city in Israel. Lunch and snacks will be available at an Israeli food court, which will be open all af- ternoon, in Shiffinan Hall-West and the cafeteria. All families are invited to participate in the Israel Inde- pendence Youth and Family In- door Games for children age 2-15, who must be accompanied by an adult. The games will in- clude relays, sack races, bas- ketball shoots, as well as face painting and a chance to play with interactive toddler gym equipment. Children will have their very own birthday party for Israel in a special program in the Dis- covery Room. Matthew T a zar will conduct a concert at Temple Israel, fea- turing cantors Gail Hirschen- fang, Chaim Najman and Harold Orbach, and the choirs of Congregation Shaarey Zedek, Temple Beth El and Temple Israel. Seymour Reich, president of the American Zion- ist Movement, will be the keynote speaker. Free bus transportation will be available from the Center's Jimmy Prentis Morris building at 10 a.m., Highland Towers at 10:30 a.m. returning through- out the afternoon. Shuttles also will transport revelers from auxiliary parking at the Hen- ry Ford Medical facility on Maple Rd. and Congregation B'nai Moshe on Drake Rd. south of Maple.
