Educators Plan
Workshop Series

Educators from congregational
and community afternoon
schools will gather at Temple
Israel 7-9 p.m. April 21 for a
series of professional enrich-
ment workshops. The evening
marks the end of the first year
of NIRIM, a program designed
to provide Jewish Educators
opportunities for professional
growth, sponsored by the
Agency for Jewish Education in
cooperation with the Jewish
Educators Council of Metro
Detroit.
Four educators will lead
workshops which will introduce
innovative concepts for teach-
ers to keep their students learn-
ing and excited through the last
few months of school. Faryl
Hadari, founder of the Israeli
Puppetry Center, will lead
"Puppetry as an Alternative
Form of Communication," for
teachers of grades K-2. Rabbi
Stuart Seltzer, director of the
Chizuk Amuno Religious School
in Baltimore, will teach "Cre-
ative Commencements," for
teachers of grades 3-6. In "End-
ing the Year on a Sweet Note,"
for grades 4-7, Nira Lev, direc-
tor of the Hebrew Interactive
Learning Center at the AJE,
will introduce new activities.
"Finding and Telling Our Own
Jewish Stories" will be led by
Avi Hadari, director of the Cre-
ative Education Program at
Kibbutz Teacher's College in Tel
Aviv, for teachers of grades 7-
12.

The program, which is open
to the community, will feature
Alan Frank, vice president and
general manager of WDIV-TV
Channel 4.

Phonathons
Solicit Funds

Volunteers are reaching out by
phone to hundreds of Detroiters
in phonathons on behalf of the
Allied Jewish Campaign April
19-20. The Young Adult Divi-
sion also will hold a phonathon
on April 17. All phonathons will
take place from the Max M.
Fisher Building.
Men and women from com-
munity groups will address the
needs of recently unemployed
people, children, older adults
andpeople at risk who look at
the Jewish Federation's help-
ing agencies for assistance.
