ITALIAN VILLAGE

heels of bread, Max used togive
you almost half a loaf ... At the
Las Vegas place that they call
Stage, there is no such thing as
a heel — the bread is cut right
to the very end.
An entertainment "sleeper"
in Las Vegas, other than the ex-
cellent lounge shows which
have so much talent, is the Hol-
lywood Cafe at the Debbie
Reynolds Hollywood Hotel on
Convention Center Drive that
used to be Holiday Casino
where former Detroiter back liv-
ing here, Willie "Buffalo"
Ehrlich, was the host for so
many years . . . The room em-
ceed by wonderful Jimmy Cae-
sar, comedian and mimic, is the
place where Las Vegas show
folks and other entertainers go
to let their hair down . . . get in
front of the mike and give in-
formal entertainment hard to
beat.
Las Vegas is a world wonder
. . . Having a bar mitzvah there
after 70 years is a never-to-be-
forgotten experience . . . Mau-
rie Pastor achieved a life
fulfillment.
IF YOU HAVE never had
skinless lake perch, and always
wanted to taste the little beau-
ties without their outer cover-
ing, the chance is here again.
Executive Chef Dennis
Lindinger is back at Kingsley
Inn on Woodward and Long
Lake Road.
He is one of the few special-
ists who can prepare excellent

Las Vegas
celebration of
83 years.

lake perch sans skin, which
Dennis painstakingly takes off
at request of diners . . . It's no
easy task to remove skin from
those little pieces of lake perch,
but Dennis is no ordinary chef
. . . and for sure not lazy.
The succulent, tender taste
of Kingsley's lake perch, with or
without skin, is noted nation-
wide because of Dennis, who
went to Washington, D.C.,with
Kingsley Food and Beverage Di-
rector Ramsey Zawideh, and
served them when President
Ronald Reagan was in
office.
In 1972, he was a big favorite
at Kingsley, left in 1974 to open
the Clarkston Cafe, and re-
turned in 1977.
A lifelong dream had to be
gotten out of Dennis' system . .
. that of opening his own restau-
rant . . . which he did in Florida
. . . The revues were fast and
good, but Dennis found that be-
ing a chef and owning a restau-
rant are two different
ballgames.
A grateful Kingsley Inn and
its customers are happy that he
has returned . . . His lake perch

has always ranked among the
best . . . Without skin it moves
to the top.
Those great waitresses that
have been at Kingsley Inn a
long time are still there . . . serv-
ing Dennis' wonderful offerings
with such efficient precision .
.. Connie "Is everyone happy?"
Samarzich, always smiling, al-
ways personable, is a prime ex-
ample of another chefs dream
. . . great service so the food pre-
pared is brought out and pre-
sented properly.
TICKETS WILL go fast
. .. that's for sure . . . They al-
ways do when he is at the key-
board.
David Syme will be in concert
at the Royal Oak Music The-
ater, May 10, 8 p.m., for the So-
phie and Harry Hoffman
Chapter, City of Hope.
Named the "Human Juke-
box" because of the live radio
show in which he fulfills any re-
quest, Dave will be joined by as-
sisting musicians in performing
selections from his five record-
ings available on cassette or CD.
Prices are $100 for cabaret
seating and afterglow; $50
cabaret seating, $25 general ad-
mission . . . Since cocktails will
be available for the cafe folks,
ducats are being sold only to
those 21 years or over.
You can get more info or tick-
ets by calling the local City of
Hope office, 737-3020 . . . All
Ticketrnaster locations will also
have them.
MARTY KOSINS, author,
and Howard Fridson, illustra-
tor, both localites, will be sign-
ing copies of Maya's First Rose
. . . this Sunday, 3 p.m. . . . at
Barnes & Noble on Telegraph
in Bloomfield Hills.
The wonderful book about
Marty's love and devotion for
his dog, with foreword by Burl
Ives, was recently bought and
published internationally by
Random House.
Maya's First Rose by Martin
Scot Kosins (Villard Books, a di-
vision of Random House), is sold
at all bookstores in hardback,
$14.95.
HOA KOW INN celebrating
its 39th anniversary, is one of
only four Chinese family restau-
rants in the Metro Detroit area
with such longevity . . . Pearl's
Garden, Birmingham; Chung's
on Cass; Peking Pavilion on Jef-
ferson.
Also, 39 years later, Hoa Kow
on Nine Mile, west of Coolidge,
is the only one left of those orig-
inally opened in this area of
Oak Park . . . Hoa Kow and
Herald Wholesale on Coolidge
near Eight Mile, are also the
sole businesses remaining that
long in Oak Park with the same
ownership . . . A second Hoa
Kow, joining in the celebration,
is on Orchard Lake Road and
Lone Pine inCrosswinds
Mall. [1
