He said the economy is in good shape despite the sharp fall in prices on the stock ex- change during the first quarter this year. He predicted that Gross Do- mestic Product would rise be- tween 3-4 percent this year and Gross National Product also would register a sharp rise. Last year, "there were many investments in the economy," Mr. Sanbar said. "Asa result, GNP is expected to rise nicely in 1994, which will eventually restore the capital market's balance." The rise in real estate prices is understandable, Mr. Sanbar said, because investment in housing fell 27 percent last year and building starts by the pub- lic sector fell from 21,000 in 1992 to 4,800. Mr. Sanbar said high demand for private real estate also implies high demand for commercial real estate. He expressed optimism that demand for office buildings will pick up. ❑ /
