The Sophie and Harry Hoffman
Chapter for City of Hope Na-
tional Medical Center will pre-
sent pianist David Syme in con-
cert 8 p.m. May 10 at the
Royal Oak Music Theater.
Admission to the concert is
$100 for a patron ticket, which
includes cage seating and af-
terglow; $50 for a sponsor tick-
et, which includes cage seating;
and $25 for general admission.
Guests must be 21 years or old-
er to attend the performance.
Proceeds from the concert
will benefit City of Hope Na-
tional Medical Center.

Hebrew Poetry
Study Series

The Midrasha Center for Adult
Jewish Learning will present a
three-part Monday evening
study series titled "Hebrew Po-
etry from the Golden Age in
Spain," on April 11, 18 and 25.
Each study session will meet
from 7:30-9 p.m. at the
Midrasha, 21550 West 12 Mile
Road, Southfield. There is a
charge.
The instructor will be com-
munity educator Edward
Codish, a published poet and
translator and a teacher at Aki-
va Hebrew Day School. Mr.
Codish has also taught many
adult Jewish education classes,
specializing in Jewish history.
Adult learners may register for
the entire se-ies or for individ-
ual session dates.
Each session will focus on the
poetry of a specific poet: April
11, Shmuel Hanagid; April 18,
Ibn Gabirol; and April 25, Yehu-
da Halevy. These three poets
represent contrasts in Jewish
attitudes on poetry and exile.
Texts in English and Hebrew
will be distributed in advance.
No knowledge of Hebrew is re-
