The Agency for Jewish Education provides a support
system to all congregational schools and teachers,
offering educational resources, teacher training and
consultation and curriculum development. Among
the offerings are learning opportunities for people
with special needs, families, interfaith families and
high school students. The Midrasha Center for
Adult Jewish Learning offers adult classes. AJE is
home to the Hebrew Interactive Video Lab and
Community Jewish Library.

Fresh Air Society provides summer and year-round
camping opportunities for native-born and new
American young people to learn about Jewish life in
a relaxed setting. Operations include the resident
camp in Ortonville, outpost sites, teen travel trips
and programs for children with special needs, as
well as family camping and Elderhostel, conducted
in conjunction with the Midrasha Center for Adult
Jewish Learning.

Non-interest loans are available to new Americans
and to persons who are unable to secure
commercial bank loans for such purposes as
medical expenses, security deposits and small
business needs. HFLA also administers the
community's student loans and the home buyer's
loan program of Federation's Neighborhood
Project, which seeks to strengthen the
neighborhoods of Oak Park and Southfield.

SERVICES TO THE ELDERLY

Senior adults find companionship through day programs,
cultural activities, classes and volunteer opportunities.
Independent and assisted-living facilities and companion and
homemaker services help frail elderly people live in dignity.

PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIE,

Descendants of immigrants or immigrants ourselves, we help
ease the fears of newcomers to Detroit with supportive services
to give them a fresh start in their new country. After learning

Jewish Women); a transportation program for older

requiring special assistance. Residents at Borman
Hall and Prentis Manor receive medical and
skilled nursing care, therapy, kosher meals,
religious and therapeutic services. Fleischman
Residence is for those who do not require nursing
