Some blame Nation of Islam

his followers for the current
delicate relationship between
blacks and Jews.

But, in terms of his hate

"It's nice to see people come

good time," Ms. Schiff said.

said both communities stand
to gain from the seder.
"There is a great deal of ner-
vousness about black-Jewish
relations. I think the Jewish
community gets the benefit of
an affirmation that there are
blacks around who are con-
nected to the Jewish commu-
nity and share the same
concerns. People often lose
sight of that. This seder says
those demagogues like
Farrakhan don't represent the
entire black community."
This was the first interfaith
seder for Bloomfield Township
resident Barbara Horowitz and
her family. She brought her
husband, her children and her
parents.
"I thought it would be bene-
ficial for us and our children to
attend," she said. "I want my
children to see the connection
between blacks and Jews.
We're fighting the same fight
and it's interesting to see how
things fit together."
While blacks and Jews
share a common past of slav-
ery and have both been victims
of racism, the nature of their
relationship is not as strong
as it has been in the past.
"Blacks and Jews have been
allies, but it's no secret they've
drifted," said Bill Nabors, past-
president and first vice-presi-
dent of the NAACP. "This

She ignores reality: (1) Pales-
tinian terrorists have been re-
sponsible for thousands and
thousands of brutal terrorist
acts; (2) Baruch Goldstein was
among the first Jewish mur-
derers; (3) the reason that all
settlers carry guns is that they
have repeatedly been targeted
— over 35 have died since Sep-
tember. She chooses to make ac-
cusatory insinuations about
army policy, rather than give

Jerusalem,
Occupied Land

The American Zionist Move-
ment deplores the United Na-
tions
Security
Council
resolution referring to
Jerusalem as occupied territo-
ry, a notion we emphatically re-
ject...
As president of the AZM-
Michigan Region, I urge your
readers to remember that in the
years 1948-67, when Jerusalem

was divided between Israel and
Jordan, no Israeli, no Jew, was
allowed to enter east Jerusalem
nor to visit any holy place in
that Arab-held area.
Any referral to Jerusalem as
occupied territory is therefore
unthinkable. Jerusalem is of
central importance as the spir-
itual, cultural, religious and his-
torical heart of Judaism.
1996 will mark the 3000th
anniversary of Jerusalem, the
City of David. The AZM is
pledged to be fully engaged in
an effort to guarantee that
Jerusalem will remain the unit-
ed capital of the State of Israel
and world Jewry.
