The following exciting programs
will be held at the Eugene and
Marcia Applebaum Jewish Par-
enting Center, 4200 Walnut
Lake Rd., West Bloomfield.
Susan Barr, educator, li-
brarian, storyteller, will facili-
tate "Grand Time for
Grandparents!" Sundays, April
10, 17, 24 and May 1, 10:30-
11:30 a.m. to provide an oppor-
tunity for grandparents and
their grandchildren ages 3-5 to
enhance relationships through
memory-making adventures,
games, crafts and storytelling.
"'Me Next S.T.E.P." will en-
courage parents to take a fresh
look at their parenting style and
provide an in-depth look at fac-
tors which influence the ability
to be effective parents. Elissa
Rosenfeld will lead this seven-
session study group, which is a
follow-up to preschool or ele-
mentary Mensch Making-
S.T.E.P. classes, on Mondays,
April 11-June 6 (no class May
16 and 30) 9-10:30 a.m.
Students 11 years of age or
older will learn basic first aid,
how to handle emergency sit-
uations, general child care, ap-
propriate Jewish stories and
practices under Michelle Prys-
lac's instruction. "Certified
Babysitting", which meets on
Mondays, April 11-May 23 (no
class May 16), 4-5:30 p.m. is de-
signed to help to get ready for
all those summer babysitting
opportunities. Students will re-
ceive a Red Cross certification
card on successful competition
of the class, as determined by
the instructor.
"Why Be Jewish?" is an op-
portunity to learn how Judaism
can enrich life. Rabbi William
Gershon of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek and class par-
ticipants will explore what
makes Judaism unique and dif-
ferent from all other religions.
April 12: "The Ten Command-
ments: Can You Be a Holy Per-
son?" April 19: "Kashrut and
Shabbat: Living a Unique Life
the Jewish Way," April 26: "Can
Modern Jews Believe in God?"
No prior Jewish knowledge is
required for this series.
Evelyn Kasle, designed "Pre-
Retirement Seminar" for men
and women ages 50-something
to 70-something to gain the
skills and insights with which
to meet the unprecedented chal-
lenges of living older. Alterna-
tive living arrangements, family
communications, problem solv-
ing, the potential challenges of
being in the middle third of the
Sandwich Generation, and
more topics will be discussed on
Wednesdays, April 13-May 18
from 7-9 p.m.
"Kitchen Table" is a morning
session for moms and their ba-
bies, birth through 15 months.
This is an opportunity to dis-
cuss the role of mother with oth-
er moms. The group will meet
Wednesdays, April 13-May 11,
9:30- 11 a.m.
Everyone is welcome to drop
in anytime between 11 a.m.-1
p.m. on April 15 for "Challah.
Days!" This is a chance to join
the fun of making a challah that
can be baked at home.
"The Outer Limits: Chal-
lenges of Parenting" is a session
to discuss the issues and chal-
lenges of raising teen-agers with
other concerned parents and
professional educators. On April
21 at 7:30 p.m., join Dr. Gary
Faber, assistant superintendent
of West Bloomfield Public
Schools, and Sandra Faber, as-
sistant principal of Andover
High School, in examining par-
enting styles regarding setting
limits and reasonable expecta-
tions.

Dr. Mark Smiley, headmaster
of Hillel Day School, will lead
the Conservative Movement
Torah Study April 7 12:30 p.m.
in the Max M. Fisher Building.
The study session is sponsored
by the Michigan Region of the
United Synagogue, the Michi-
gan Region Rabbinical Assem-
bly, and the Jewish Theological
Seminary.
Study sessions are held every
