Men's formal wear for this season sees a lot
of shawl collar dinner jackets, classic tuxedos
as well as contemporary interpretations, says
Tom Jullian, fashion director of the Fashion
Association, an association of designers in

'We're also getting into some novelty and for-
mal banded collar shirt styles."
Mondo diMarco has launched a line this
spring of formal French cuff banded collar
dress shirts in dark minicheck patterns, while
Riba Leather puts hand-pounded sterling-sil-

Men can personalize their formal dress
with fabric mixing or cummerbunds or vests
in colorful patterns. Lord West, a leading pro-
ducer of festive apparel for men, had intro-
duced full vests by Paulette Lust that feature
California freeways or painted desserts.
And designs rooted in abstract art are "in"
too, says the designing firm.
"Bow ties in assorted shapes and patterns
other than the usual black together with a
mind-boggling array of studs and links are
other ways to fulfill the creative challenge,"
says Harvey Weinstein, chairman of Lord
West formals.
