ing; those with oily skin should use an oil-free
moisturizer.
Which brings us to skin type, the most
important information you need to choose
cosmetics or cleansers, says "Cosmetics Buy-
ing Guide."
To determine whether your skin is dry,
normal or oily, wash your face with a non-
moisturizing soap (such as Neutrogena or
Purpose), wait several hours, then hold a sep-
arate eyeglass lens-cleaning paper to each re-
gion of your face— forehead, nose, chin,
cheeks and lower and upper eyelids— for 10
seconds.
On oily skin, the paper from all areas will
be oily; on dry skin, dry. On normal skin, the
paper held to T-zone areas (forehead, nose,
sides and chin) will be oily whereas other ar-
eas will be less so.
The most moisturizing cleansers are cleans-
ing creams or lipid cleansers; the most dry-
ing are abrasive scrubs or powder masks. The
best cleanser for normal skin is probably a
surfactant soap or cleanser with oil-free mois-
turizing ingredients says "Cosmetics Buying
Guide."
As we age, our skin typically becomes less
oily, so oilier moisturizers and cosmetics may
be called for. But some women continue to
have oily skin well into adulthood.
Whatever your look, put your best face for-
ward and feel your inner beauty shine
through. 0

Jackson's two-, five- and 10-minute makeups
can take you from day to evening.
She applies foundation sheerly all over the
face to smooth out shadows and imperfections,
including the eyelids, blending with a clean
sponge; then she applies a few strokes of brow
pencil and a light touch of eye shadow. Next
she lines the top and bottom eyelids with a taupe
pencil, smudging to a soft shadow, then puts
one coat of mascara on the lashes top and bot-
tom. Last, she adds blush and lip pencil.
The five-minute makeup adds a bit more
eyeliner and shadow, maybe blending three
colors, with a bit more blush and lipstick. The
10-minute makeup uses two shades of blush
to emphasize cheekbones, more eyebrow
pencil, intensified eye shadow and red lip-
stick.11
