out some inexpensive T-shirts or sweats. Adis-
tic parents can decorate them with their fa-
vorite characters or themes using a pattern or
even freehand. You might let kids do some
decorating themselves with pre-cut stamps.

At no time is fashion sense more of a dilem-
ma than during the turbulent teen years. Many
teens walk a tightrope between blending into
the fashion crowd and expressing themselves
with some fashion flair.
Encourage teens to develop their own
sense of chic and war flattering styles and col-
ors. But try not to be too critical when they opt
to go along with the crowd, no matter how
much you may dislike the trends of the day.
The retro look is still influencing some fash-
ions as it has in the past season— bell-bottom
pants and blouses with bell sleeves, colorful
70s-inspired prints, short-shorts, granny dress-
es and platform sandals should still make the
junior girls' scene.
Denim is still the sturdy fabric of choice.
Baggy or slim, blue jeans are the fashion sta-
ple for teens. Look also for denim shorts
(shorter than ever) and vests. Colored denim
jeans and shorts in black, white, cream and
earth tones are also everyday favorites.
Athletic-inspired looks, leggings, tapestry
vests and fitted sweaters and tees also make
the list of spring fashion basics. In general, ju-
nior girls may be striving for a more roman-
tic and less disheveled look.
For guys, jeans and shorts had gotten so
baggy and long in previous seasons that they
could hardly keep them up. 11
