Strategies
Discussed At S-L

A four-part seminar titled
"Financial Strategies for Suc-
cessful Retirement," sponsored
by Southfield Schools Commu-
nity Education, will be pre-
sented for the first time from
6-8:30 p.m. on consecutive Mon-
days and Wednesdays begin-
ning April 18 and April 20, at
Southfield-Lathrup High
School.
Key concepts covered include
how to generate a steady in-
come at retirement, protect
your assets from inflation and
the high cost of health care,
minimize your taxes and pro-
vide a secure retirement.
Everyone who attends will
receive a workbook and home
study materials. This seminar
is designed for retired individ-
uals and couples and those
planning on retiring in the next
five to 10 years.
Instructors are professional
financial planners from the Fo-
cus Financial Group, Inc. No
products or services will be pro-
moted or offered during the
seminar.
A fee covers the cost of in-
struction per individual and
spouse or guest and there is a
materials fee payable to the in-
structor at the start of the
course. To register or request

Many men and women, after a
few years in a job, find career
choices require re-evaluation
and development. As mature
members of the workforce,
adults may require special at-
tention to achieve goals, and in-
dividual career counseling from
the Oakland University Con-
tinuum Center offers it.
Continuum Center career
counseling is personalized, one-
on-one sessions with counsel-
ing specialists who have
master's degrees. The counsel-
ing focus is on the individual as
a whole person, bringing to-
gether crucial "pieces" for suc-
cess.
The process begins with a ba-
sic assessment and continues
for as many sessions as the
client desires. It includes as
much or as little as is required
with options for assistance in
resume writing, coaching in in-
terviewing skills and image
consulting.
Counseling instruments in-
clude testing and information
on the Michigan labor market.
Appointments are taken for

afternoon and evening sessions.
Fees are based on a sliding
scale basis according to total

Help For Small
Business Owners

Business Legal Day, phase two
of the Business Enterprise De-
velopment Center's Expert
Roundtable, will begin March
30.
The Roundtable gives small
business owners access to a va-
riety of experts who aid in the
resolution of problems origi-
nating from the operation of a
business. There is no cost.
Business Legal Day will pro-
vide business owners an op-
portunity to discuss legal
problems, deriving from the
business, with an attorney. Ar-
eas of consultation include:
forms of business organization,
buying a business, selling a
business, contract, rental leas-
es, equipment leases, employ-
er responsibility and
landlord/tenant disputes.
The Expert Roundtable is co-
sponsored by the Michigan
Small Business Development
Center Network, Comerica
Bank, Walsh College and Oak-
land Community College. This
service is available to new and
existing business owners, ses-
sions are one-hour long and by
appointment only. Business Le-
gal Day will be held in the
BEDC offices located at 1301
W. Long Lake, Suite 150, in
Troy.

More Money
From The U.S.

The Israel government raised
another $1 billion in U.S. loan
guarantees, the Treasury re-
ported.
The average cost of the bor-
rowed funds is 7.23 percent, in-
cluding underwriting
commissions, for a period of 30
years.
Israel raised a previous $1
billion in U.S. loan guarantees
in September at a lower rate of
6.38 percent.
The structure of the current
bond issue enabled delaying the
average repayment period by
six months, to 11.4 years.
Bear Stearns and Lehman
Brothers were the lead under-
writers and were joined by Mor-
gan Stanley, First Boston,
Solomon Brothers and Gold-
man Sacks.
