Celebrate Passover

Away From Home

ROSE KLEINER SPECIAL TO THE JEWISH NEWS

p

assover is a time for fam-
ilies to come together, but
these days the gatherings
are not always in the
family home. Since many fam-
ilies live rar apart, and many
women work full-time, the
trend toward celebrating Pass-
over at a resort hotel has
become a popular alternative.
For singles, Passover at a resort
can mean new contacts and
opportunities to meet new
people.
This year one can find strictly
kosher Passover facilities
throughout North America, in

grams throughout the holiday
period.
The Rye Town Hilton, in
Westchester, N.Y., is close
enough to Manhattan to allow
for taking in the city's theaters,
concerts and other attractions.
Among the plays running cur-
rently in New York there is
Sharon Glaser's Family Secrets,
James Sherman's Beau Jest,
Sybille Pearson's Unfinished
Stories and George Fischoffs
Shepherd, a new musical ad-
venture about King David.

One of the most unique
Passover venues this year will
be on the shores of Denmark—
the same shores where 50 years
ago the rescue of the Danish
Jews took place. The Hotel Vil-
la Strand, in Hornbaek, Den-
mark, is Scandinavia's only
glatt kosher hostelry. A syna-
gogue and mikvah are on the
premises.
On this continent, to the
north, Canada will have two
resorts open for Passover — in
Quebec, Montreal's Manoir St.
Sauveur, and in Ontario, Hal-
iburton's Pinestone Resort. The
latter will be entirely kosher for
Passover, and will offer com-
munal and private seders, an
indoor pool, along with skiing,
snowmobiling, and Torah
classes.
On the east coast, many
Catskill hotels will be open for
Passover, among them the Con-
cord, the Homowack, and the
Nevele. One hotel in this area,
the Chalet Vim, promises a Tea
Room during Passover that is
`Always Open.' The above
hotels, as well as most of the
others mentioned below, all
have many, and diverse pro-

the library of the Jewish
Theological Seminary. The
Yeshiva University Museum is
showing several exhibits, in-
cluding "Passover Prints, The
Sacred Hebrew Letters and

Valor."
In the Pocono Mountains, in
Pennsylvania, the Tamiment
Resort covers 2200 acres with
its private lake, 14 tennis
courts, golf course, horseback
riding, Israeli dancing and nu-
merous other features. The
Mountain Laurel Resort, in the
Poconos, has booked Shlomo
Caribach among its Passover
entertainers.
Also in the Poconos, the
Mount Airy Lodge boasts a
magnificent huge indoor Sports
Palace,' where every conceiv-
able indoor sport is available for
free, including tennis and ice
skating. There will be daily
Torah classes, scholars in resi-
dence, as well as a day camp,
teen activities, Bmadway shows
and midnight theme parties.
So many hotels in Florida
will be open for Passover that
only a few can be mentioned
here. Near Orlando, the
