Nominations For
Entrepreneurs

Nominations to honor and rec-
ognize Michigan's most suc-
cessful and dynamic
entrepreneurs are being sought
for the Entrepreneur of the
Year Award. Ernst & Young
and national sponsors Inc. mag-
azine and Merrill Lynch have
been joined by local sponsors in
the search for the best entre-
preneurs.
The Entrepreneur of the
Year program, created in 1986
by Ernst & Young, is the coun-
try's preeminent program to
honor outstanding owners of
emerging companies. Awards
will be given to entrepreneurs
in 41 major markets who have
demonstrated excellence and
extraordinary success in such
areas as innovation, financial
performance and personal com-
mitment to their businesses and
communities. Individuals who
have shown extensive support
for entrepreneurial ventures
also are eligible.
There is no fee for nomina-
tions, which must be received
by April 8. Self-nominations are
encouraged, as are those from
suppliers, customers and oth-
ers who work with entrepre-
neurs.
A panel of independent
judges comprised of leaders
from Michigan's business, aca-
demic and civic organizations
will evaluate the state's nomi-
nations and select the award re-
cipients. On June 16, an awards
banquet will be held at the Ritz-
Carlton Dearborn to announce
the Michigan award recipients.
Last year, nine entrepreneurs
from Michigan were selected as
Entrepreneur of the Year
award recipients from more
than 155 nominations.
The Michigan award recipi-
ents are eligible to become the
National Entrepreneur of the
Year. A national judging panel
will select from all of the re-
gional candidates the finalists
and award recipients for six na-
tional awards and the Entre-
preneur of the Year award.
Finalists and the national
Entrepreneur of the Year will
be announced at a black-tie
banquet in Palm Springs, Calif.
