Chagall Works
At Park West

The soaring, wildly imaginative
and colorful works of Russian
artist Marc Chagall will be fea-
tured in an exhibition at Park
West Gallery in Southfield
through March 17.
Chagall was, as a young
artist, influenced by fauvism,
futurism and cubism. Develop-
ing his own style, the celebrat-
ed artist became one of the
major contributors of surreal-
ism. Jewish life and folklore
were his primary themes as he
captured the colorfully-rich im-
ages of flowers and animals in
unusual juxtapositions, em-
bracing lovers, happy cows,
blissful birds and other symbols
of life. His talents are captured
in a variety of arts forms from
paintings, etchings and litho-
graphs to murals, stage settings
and stained glass.
Creating new works until his
death in 1985 at the age of 97,
Chagall's career spanned eight
decades and included the cre-
ation of more than 1,000 origi-
nal graphic works.
The Park West exhibition
and sale will feature the entire
Chagall Bible with each exam-
ple hand signed and individu-
ally painted in water color. The
Bible is an epic series of 105 il-
lustrations.
Chagall's works also include
giant murals for the Metropol-
itan Opera House in New York,
a series of giant biblical paint-
ings which occupy their own
museum in Nice, a series of
stained glass windows for a syn-
agogue near Jerusalem and mo-
saics and tapestry for the
Knesset.
Park West Gallery is located
at 29469 Northwestern High-
way just north of 12 Mile Road
in Southfield. Gallery hours are
Monday-Wednesday, 10 a.m.-6
p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10
a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday and
