Workshops For
Small Businesses
The Business Enterprise De-
velopment Center (BEDC) is of-
fering four workshops this
month for small business own-
ers and managers operating in
southeastern Michigan.
The workshops include "Ex-
port Training" (9 a.m. to noon,
March 16); "How To Write a
Marketing and Communica-
tions Plan" (9:30 a.m. to noon,
March 17); "How To Start a
Small Business" (9-11:30 a.m.,
March 22); and "How To Write
a Business Plan" (9-11:30 a.m.,
March 23).
Fees will be charged for all
the workshops, which will be
held at the BEDC office, 1301
West Long Lake Road, Suite
150, in Troy. To register, call
952-5800 between 9 a.m. and 5
p.m. Monday through Friday.
The BEDC, in partnership
with Walsh College and Oak-
land Community College, is a
nonprofit organization which
provides counseling and assis-
tance to small businesses.

Jump 19 Percent
Diamond exports jumped 19
percent last month totaling
$292 million, the Israel Min-
istry of Industry and Trade re-
ported. Although exports have
increased significantly to the
United States and Japan, there
hasn't been an improvement in
profitability, Supervisor of Di-

Teva's Profits
Up 81 Percent
Teva reported its 1993 net prof-
it rose 81 percent to $57.5 mil-
lion, compared to $31.7 million
the previous year.
In the fourth quarter, the
pharmaceutical company
recorded sales of $131.2 million,
a 14 percent increase compared
to the same period in 1992, and
$16.2 million net profit, a 57
percent increase compared to
the corresponding quarter in
the previous year.
The company said the im-
proved earnings were primar-
ily a result of increased activity
by its U.S. subsidiary Lemmon,
which specializes in generic
drugs. During the past year, the
company received approval for
five generic products which will
enter the market this year.
Sixty percent of Teva's sales
are for markets abroad, led by
the U.S., which makes up 46
percent of all sales.
