In 1973, Ms. Romanoff, then 21, converted to Orthodox Ju- daism. On March 20, Ms. Romanoff will bring her book, Your Peo- ple, My People: Finding Accep- tance and Fulfillment as a Jew by Choice, and a message to the Maple/Drake Jewish Commu- nity Center as part of a 7 p.m. symposium on intermarriage. Judy Petsonk, a New Jersey native and co-author of The In- termaniage Handbook: A Guide for Jews and Christians, will also be featured during the JCC's symposium. Ms. Romanoff started a con- versions support group in her hometown of Penn Valley, Pa. Her group, Jewish Converts and Interfaith Network, has grown tremendously since its inception and has touched the lives of 35,000 people. "Within the community the group was received well," she said. "But then people came to me saying, 'My sister is marry- ing someone who is not con- verting.' We expanded the Romanoff said. "If there is no conversion we must make sure the couple has the guidance they need." Ms. Petsonk, who has also de- signed workshops and pro- grams for intermarried couples and their families, will address the internal stresses of reli- giously mixed relationships and the in-law conflicts that often accompany them. "Conflicts tend to surface around holidays and life-cycle events," Ms. Petsonk said. "It's important to stop and evaluate what's going on because there is so much intense emotion in- volved. Being able to listen and learn are also crucial." Both authors will also discuss raising children in mixed marriages. CI L - i\
