Charles Weiner, 88, of South-
field, died March 6. He was the
founder and owner of Banner
Lumber Co. on Greenfield and
Fullerton, which was founded
in 1945 and is still operating
today. He was a member of Per-
fection Lodge, B'nai B'rith Cen-
tury Club, Congregation Adat
Shalom, and one of the founders
of the Town and Country Club.
He leaves his wife, Tillie; sons
and daughters-in-law, Morton
and Dorothy, Arnold and Joyce
of West Bloomfield; two grand-
sons.

Melvin Tumin

Former Detroiter Melvin Mar-
vin Tumin, a leading sociologist
and author, died March 3 at the
Medical Center in Princeton,
N.J. He was 75.
Professor Tumin's areas of
expertise included race rela-
tions, education and violence.
The author of more than 100 ar-
ticles and 20 books, he served
as coauthor of Evaluation of the
Effectiveness of Educational

B'rith and the Anti-Defamation
League.
He leaves his wife, Lucienne;
son and daughter-in-law, Dr.
William S. and Beth of High-
land Park, Ill.; sisters, Leona
Levin of Farmington Hills,
Dorothy Levin Miller of Farm-
ington Hills; three grandchil-
dren.

During the coming week Yeshiva Beth Yehudah will
observe the yahrtzeits of the following departed friends,
with the traditional memorial prayer, recitation of kaddish
and studying of mishnayos.
