arcia Smith was not
about to let her
daughter spend Pe-
sach without some tempting
taste treats.
Ms. Smith is a business-
woman from Needham, Mass.
Ten years ago her daughter,
Trudi, was just
starting studies
at the Universi-
ty of Michigan.
"I decided to
send her a care
package, so she
would really feel
at home," Ms.
Smith says.
Thus was
born Goodie
Goodie For You,
which distrib-
utes Passover
care packages
not only to stu-
\- 3 dents but to families around
the country. Ms. Smith, pres-
ident of Goodie Goodie, also is
the creator of the world-fa-
mous Crispy-0 cereal.

Ms. Smith said she created
Crispy-Os so students could
have "something they could
serve up immediately" and
children could enjoy a "break-
fast in a box."
Crispy-Os are now avail-
able in chocolate (which Ms.
Smith says can be
ground up and
made into a yum-
my crust) and
fruit-flavored. It is
the official
Passover break-
fast cereal of El Al
Airlines.
In addition to
the Crispy-Os, the
care packages in-
clude candy,
matzah, jelly, fruit
juice and maca-
roons. They cost
$25, which in-
cludes postage and handling,
and may be ordered through
Goodie Goodie For You, P.O.

Beautiful News

T

he closets are dean. The cabinets are clean. The floors
are clean. Everything looks beautiful except you and
your husband, exhausted after all that getting ready
for Pesach.
This is the perfect time for a little pick-me-up, like kosher-
for-Passover makeup.
Sylvia Hamowy, head of the New York-based Reflections
Cosmetics, has a full line
of kosher-for-Pesach skin
care and cosmetics.
Many cosmetics contain
chametz, she explains.
Eye or powdered face

mouthwash, liquid cosmetics, sprays and similar products can
contain alcohol.

A Spiritual Addition

T

he United Synagogue
of Conservative Ju-
daism has created a
Haggadah supplement
which parallels events in the
story of Pesach with con-
temporary issues.
Keeping the Spirit Alive: A
Work in Progress poses such
questions as, "The salt wa-
ter into which the karpas is
dipped has been interpreted
as salty tears. What past
events do they remind us of,

and what do they signify to-
day?" "What can we learn
from our experience as
slaves? Is it possible to be
free and yet feel like a slave?'
and "How do the first nine
plagues compare to contem-
porary natural disasters?"
