Irina Lekhtman Temple Israel will host the an- nual Harry Laker Memorial Concert 4 p.m. March 20. Titled. "The World of Yossele Rosen- blatt," this concert tells the story of the world-renowned cantor in drama and song and will fea- ture Cantor Israel Goldstein, Irina Lekhtman and Michael Haber. Also participating will be the Temple Israel Choir, Choral Group and Junior Choir. The son of a cantor, Israel Goldstein was born in England. He is director of the School of Sacred Music at Hebrew Union College — Jewish Institute of Religion and cantor of the Jeri- cho Jewish Center in Long Is- land. He has officiated and performed in concerts in major cities throughout our country and Canada as well as in Israel Israel Goldstein and Europe. Additionally, he has written piano accompani- ments to two publications of the Cantors Assembly. Irina Lekhtman, mezzo- soprano, recently arrived from the Soviet Union where she was soloist with the Moldavian State Opera. She performed in major opera houses throughout Russia and in Bulgaria, Ro- mania, Italy and France before emigrating to the United States. In addition to recent con- certs in Belgium and Turkey, she made her Detroit Sym- phony Opera debut in January. The community is invited to join in this tribute to Cantor Rosenblatt. Rediscovered Film Shown In Ann Arbor The recently discovered and re- stored 1948 film Undzere Kinder (Our Children), the last Yiddish film made in Europe, will be shown 7 p.m. March 13 at the University of Michigan's Natural Science Building Au- ditorium, Ann Arbor, followed by a panel discussion. Our Children is a drama about a group of children who survived the Holocaust. Largely shot on location at an orphan- age/school near Lodz, the film stars children who were actual survivors of the Holocaust and focuses on how they come to terms with their past. The panel discussion follow- ing the film will address child- hood trauma and abuse within the framework of the Holocaust and the Holocaust within the framework of art. Pauslists will include Sidney- fiolkosky, professor of history at U-M-Dearborn; Jack Novick, U-M clinical associate professor of psychiatry and supervision analyst at the Michigan Psy- choanalytic Institute; and Ker- ry Novick, faculty member at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute.
