CADILLAC® CREATING A HIGHER STAN CoARC ■ Clinton, Kohl Rabin Blocks Talk Reparations Smoking Ban Washington (JTA) — Presi- dent Clinton this week join- ed the fight for Hugo Princz, a Holocaust survivor denied war reparations by the Ger- man government because of his American citizenship. Mr. Clinton raised the matter in his private meeting with German Chancellor Helmut Kohl Mr. Princz's attorney said. Neither the White House nor the German Embassy was willing to comment this week on the content of the meeting. "The fact that the presi- dent is now personally engaged in the Princz case should send a powerful signal to Germany that the U.S. government will not tolerate the continued dis- criminatory treatment of an American citizen," said Mr. Princz's attorney, Bill Marks. The German government has denied Mr. Princz war reparations for over 40 years because, as an American citizen when liberated from Nazi concentration camps, he did not meet the require- ment that recipients be "stateless." Mr. Princz, 70, spent three years at the Auschwitz and Dachau concentration camps. His father had American citizenship, thus entitling his son to the same status. The House of Represent- atives passed a resolution last week urging Mr. Clin- ton to mention Mr. Princz to the German chancellor in their meeting. Mr. Princz and his wife toured Capitol Hill in a series of meetings with various members of Con- gress. Palestinian Competition Israeli farmers will not be able to compete with the agricultur- al sector of the Palestinian au- tonomous region, according to Agriculture Minister Ya'acov Tsur. Speaking at a conference sponsored by the ministry, Mr. Tsur said the new situation calls for investment in automa- tion and the search for new markets and value-added prod- ucts. The key to keeping the sec- tor operating is focusing on ex- ports and producing agricul- tural yield technologies, Mr. Tsur said. Jerusalem (JTA) — It has taken a full decade, but anti- smoking activists have suc- ceeded in limiting smoking in the Israeli workplace. Workers wishing to light a cigarette will have to do so in designated smoking areas, under legislation passed by the Knesset Labor and Social Affairs Com- mittee. An amendment to the groundbreaking 1984 law that bans smoking in certain public places, the regulation will limit smoking to specified rooms and lounges in the country's 60,000 places of employment. The new regulation, which has been in the works for three years, will take effect 90 days after the health min- ister signs it. Just when that will be remains unclear, since Prime Minister Yit- zhak Rabin, the acting health minister, is less than enthusiastic about the mea- sure. Lighting a cigarette dur- ing an interview about the legislation, Rabin, a chain smoker, asserted: "I am the health minister. I can decide not to sign the change if I don't want to." 1994 CADILLAC SEDAN DEVILLE 24 month Smartlease $11,329** 1994 CADILLAC SEVILLE SLS DEMO 3 TO CHOOSE FROM $439* OR PER MONTH 24 month Smartlease $449* SINGLE UP FRONT PAYMENT 24 month Smartlease PLUS OR PER MONTH $12,479** SINGLE UP FRONT PAYMENT 1994 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD Radio Shack Bans Games New York (JTA) -- Radio Shack, the consumer elec- tronics company, has cancelled all future orders for an electronic pinball game that displays a swastika. The company also issued an apology to anyone who might have been offended by the game. The Anti-Defamation League, which had notified the company of the problem, praised Radio Shack for its prompt action. In a letter to Abraham Foxman, national director of the ADL, Radio Shack's vice president of merchandising, Robert Miller, said that in addition to canceling orders, Radio Shack "will offer a full refund to any customer who is offended and wishes to return the toy." The swastika is one of several images — including a tree, a tank and a tele- phone — that appear in the "Pinball Master" game as a player advances from one round to the next. 0 STIOt 223425 24 month Smartlease PLUS STK# 708375 24 month Smartlease .. 24 month S10,998 Smartlease PLUS SINGLE UP FRONT PAYMENT , "GMAC SMARTLEASE 24 months.
