wo-hundred entries a day
are pouring in to Capital
Mortgage in response to
its contest, which is offer-
ing free home mortgage pay-
ments for one year.
The drawing for the winner
will be held on tax day, April 15.
Homeowners who are building,
purchasing or refinancing are
eligible. The mortgage does not
have to be with Capital.
Payments of up to $1,000 a
month for principal and inter-
est will be paid by Capital. Es-
crow taxes and insurance
payments will not be included.
No purchase is necessary, but
only one entry per household is
allowed.
Entry blanks are available in
newspaper advertisements and
Capital's offices in Southfield
and Rochester.
"If the response to our pro-
gram is as great as we expect,
we anticipate holding month-
ly drawings," said Harry Glanz,
executive vice president of Cap-
ital, which began doing busi-
ness in May 1992.
Mr. Glanz said Capital is
holding the contest to thank
customers who closed more
than $200 million in residential
mortgages during the compa-
ny's first calendar year (Janu-
ary through December 1993).
"We believe that volume is
a Michigan record for a mort-
gage company in its first calen-
dar year," Mr. Glanz said. ❑
Growers Will Get Compensation
The Israel Agriculture Ministry
will pay MS 80 million annu-
ally for the next five years to
compensate vegetable growers
for competition from Palestin-
ian farmers in the autonomous
regions, the ministry an-
nounced.
The ministry's plan will com-
pensate the farmers according
to a formula based on the
amount of produce they grow
annually.
The main purpose of the plan
is to subsidize the growers un-
til they can find another liveli-
hood, according to Agriculture
Minister Ya'acov Tsur.
The plan also aims to elimi-
nate the ministry's subsidies for
compensating the destruction
of vegetable surpluses.
