Ron Brown:
Purchase creates jobs.
American employment, Mr.
Brown said the purchase
would create at least
100,000 jobs.
Mr. Clinton thanked Saudi
Arabia's King Fand, who
chose American companies
over European companies
for the purchase, for his
"vote of confidence in
American quality, American
workers and the com-
petitiveness of our exports."
Prince Bandar, appearing
at the White House with
Clinton and Brown, said the
relationship between Saudi
Arabia and the United
States was "very strong." El

Washington (JTA) — Saudi
Arabia has agreed to pur-
chase $6 billion in commer-
cial aircraft from U.S. corn-
panies, President Clinton
announced last week.
At a White House news
conference, Mr. Clinton and
Commerce Secretary Ron
Brown said the Saudis had
decided to replace their
civilian fleet of approximate-
ly 50 planes with aircraft
made by Boeing Co. and
McDonnell Douglas Corp.
The Jewish community
has long kept a watchful eye
on purchases of American
technological goods by Arab
countries, especially those
with military applications.
In this case, where only
commercial aircraft were in-
volved, however, the major
American Jewish watchdog
groups had no comment on
the sale.
"In this Olympic season,
we come here to announce a
gold medal win for
America's businesses and
workers," Mr. Clinton said.
Mr. Clinton added that the
deal will support tens of
thousands of jobs in states
including Arkansas,
California, Kansas;
Missouri, Utah and Wash-
ington.

Sydney, Australia (JTA) —
A well-worn boot, items of
jewelry and reconstructed
skull fragments were at the
center of a unique presenta-
tion at the Sydney Jewish
Museum last week.
With the dissolution of the
war crimes investigatory
unit by the Australian
government due to be com-
pleted by the end of this
month, the Australian Ar-
chives gave, in perpetuity,
photographs of and items
exhumed from the mass
graves of the Jews of the
villages of Gnivan and Ser-
niki, in the Ukraine.
The exhumations and
subsequent reburials in ac-
cordance with Jewish law,
were part of the Australian
government's investigation
of allegations that people
who found haven in
Australia had been involved
in the murders of the Jewish
villagers more than 50 years
ago.
It was part of a series of
scientific and historical in-
vestigations conducted by
the Special Investigations
Unit.
Making the presentation,
Federal Justice Minister
Duncan Kerr said, "It bears
reflecting that the horrors of
the Holocaust should never
be forgotten.
"It is important for every-
one to be aware of mankind's
ability, even as supposedly
civilized beings, to inflict in-
human.suffering."
For this reason, material
that, under normal cir-
cumstances, would be lodged
with the Australian Ar-
chives was being presented
to the Sydney Jewish Muse-
um. D
