hosting its sixth annual Char-
ity Trade-In during February
for the benefit of the same or-
ganizations. Anyone bringing
in an old shirt or tie for charity
receives $3 off the price of a new

monetary donations also are be-

"The trade-in gets bigger
each year," said Shirt Box own-

and it helps needy people get

Lana Rybak and her
grandmother, Leah, vis-
it at least once a week.
They consider their re-
lationship close and talk about
many things.
Last Friday, Elana found
out that her grandmother's fa-
vorite thy as a child was a doll
she made.
She discovered plenty more,
too.
For Purim, the sixth-grade
students of Akiva Hebrew Day
School brought shalach man-
ot baskets of cookies, juice,
crackers, candy and other hol-
iday treats to the residents of
Teitel Federation Apartments
in Oak Park.
In addition to dropping the

customary parcels, the stu-
dents "interviewed" the apart-
ment dwellers.
Arlene Oppenheim, Akiva's
sixth-grade general studies
teacher, compiled a list of stu-
dents' questions, ranging from
"Where did you go to school?"
to "What's wrong with the
world today?"
"It's a mitzvah to do this,"
Ms. Oppenheim said. "But this
is also about teaching sensi-
tivity toward older people. We
discussed our trip before com-
ing; we'll talk more after. We'll
write thank-you letters.
"Who knows? Maybe some
relationships could develop
from this."
Sadie Weiss would like that.
