Keshet Plans
Parents' Meeting

Keshet, an organization of Jew-
ish families of children with spe-
cial needs, will have an
informative evening with two
IEP experts March 2 at 7:30
p.m. at the Agency for Jewish
Education in Southfield.
Ms. Patricia Baccus, who is
on staff with the Michigan Pro-
tection and Advocacy Service,
will discuss "The Parent as a
Professional and Equal Partner
in the IEP Team." Mrs. Baccus
is the parent of a daughter with
special needs and has developed
a strong approach including the
parent as an equal partner in
planning a child's education.
Dr. Kathleen Pistono, who
works with the Macomb Inter-
mediate School District, will dis-
cuss setting IEP goals (based on
coach - choosing options and ac-
commodations for children). Dr.
Pistono is a speech and lan-
guage consultant.
The evening will allow for
questions and discussion. The
program is open to all interest-
ed parents and there is no
charge.

Parent Center
Offers Classes

The Eugene and Marcia Ap-
plebaum Jewish Parenting
Center will host the following
programs.
Challah-Days: will be 11
a.m.-1 p.m. March 4 at the Par-
enting Center. There is a fee.
In "The Work of our Hands,"
participants will create person-
alized kippot. Materials are
available at class. Join Philicia
Brin at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, 27375 Bell Road, South-
field, March 3-24 7-8:30 p.m.
There is a fee.
Harlene Appelman, director
of field services for the Whizin
Institute for Jewish Family Life,
will lead "Pro-active Parenting.

Throw Away World" 7:30-9:30
p.m. March 9.
